About This Piece

A flower lasts only days. This drawing holds one still.

I worked it in pen and ink, with no colour at all — because colour can actually hide a flower's form, while line lays it bare. Every stroke follows the architecture of the bloom: petals, stem, stamens, the way one part gives onto the next. I study a flower the way an architect studies a building, then let the lines do the rest.

There's a quiet truth folded into all that beauty, too. The colour and scent we admire exist to draw bees and butterflies, to keep the whole cycle of pollination turning. Beauty doing essential work.

So this is a small tribute: something nature makes in passing, kept from fading. My nature theme distilled to its simplest line.

An original pen-and-ink drawing. Signed.
