About This Piece

I can't sail across oceans, and I don't need to. To explore the mysteries of water I only have to lean over it — at the seashore, or at the edge of a lake — and watch carefully. Countless configurations of light and shadow form and dissolve there, ebb and flow, more than enough to make a hundred paintings, each one rightly called Deep Water.

The deep has fascinated people for centuries, and I feel that pull too. But mine is a quieter exploration: not the risk of the old voyagers, just patient attention to a surface that never holds still.

Scandinavian nature is one of my deepest sources. This is my landscape theme turned downward, into water and what it half-conceals.

An original painting. Signed.
