About This Piece

A tree does not know it is beautiful. It simply grows — outward from a center, over time, over wounds, over everything that pressed against it. The bark is the record of that.

This print takes a fragment of that record and holds it still long enough to see it: the flow of lines that is never random, the density that has direction, the single opening at the center where the eye finally rests. That void is not empty. It is where the growth began, or where something interrupted it. You can't tell. Neither can the tree.

The forest doesn't explain itself. Neither does this.

I send occasional letters from the studio — no noise, just the work and what’s behind it.
