About This Piece
The sea is never just scenery to me. Standing on a shore, I feel two things at once: the pull of all that beauty, and a quiet fear of how vast and indifferent the water is. The deep blue meets an endless sky until you can't tell where one ends — unity and immensity in the same breath.
The title holds the same doubleness. Swimming, falling — are we held by the water or surrendering to it? I left that open. It's the human question I keep returning to: we're drawn to the very things that remind us how small we are.
I think too of the people who once crossed these waters toward an unknown they couldn't see. The sea has always been both threat and invitation.
An original painting in blues. Signed.
