About This Piece
She's only partly visible in the frame. Her face is concealed — we get just her full lips and the line of her chin, as if she's inviting us into a guessing game: can you tell the colour of my eyes? Her body twists, her head turned back over her shoulder.
We catch her back, and the hand that tenderly holds it. She's wrapped in her own arms, engrossed in herself, accepting — perhaps even loving — her own being.
And yet the self-sufficiency doesn't fully convince. Something in the way she holds herself hints at waiting, a quiet longing for someone to arrive. That tension is the whole drawing: a woman at home in herself, and still reaching.
Pen and ink, black and white, the rest left to your imagination. Art says what words can't.
An original drawing. Signed.
