About This Piece

Intriguing Hole

This pen-and-ink drawing takes the familiar form of a tree and turns it into something abstract and mysterious. Through textured, layered lines it stops being a study of nature and starts asking questions. At its center is a hole.

That hole is the whole point. It's empty, and yet full of meaning — unsettling and fascinating at once. It holds your attention precisely because you can't quite name it. A shape with no explanation pulls us closer than one we understand.

We're curious creatures; we look for meaning in everything we see. But some things resist being defined, and the hole is one of them. It becomes a symbol of the unknown — what lies just beyond our experience — and an invitation to imagine, to step in, to wonder rather than explain.

My nature theme tipping into the abstract and the open. An original drawing. Signed.

Jolanta
