About This Piece
The title is bold, almost presumptuous — daring to step into territory Leonardo already owns. In art everything is allowed, in theory, but a bold gesture only holds if there's logic behind it.
My drawing is a black silhouette, nothing more. It reveals no details; it merely signals the presence of a woman. That understatement hides as much as it shows, and yet it demands your gaze — the outline almost whispers, "Look at me, try to understand me." That's exactly how the Mona Lisa draws us in.
A painting and a drawing are worlds apart, and Leonardo was a man where I am a woman. Yet Lisa and Mona seem to speak of the same eternal thing: that a woman is unknowable, complex, endlessly attractive.
To stand in her shadow isn't to compete, but to converse. He offered a smile; I offer a whisper.
