About This Piece
A flower in black and white, drawn in pen and ink. The right technique for a flower, when flowers are made of colour? Perhaps not — but that's the invitation.
I draw a flower the way an architect draws a building, absorbed in its structure: petals, stamens, pistils, the fragile design built to lure an insect and keep the cycle of pollination turning. Stripped to line, that architecture stands clear.
No colour, no Monet lilies — only form. So the colour becomes yours. Looking at it, you can let your imagination fill in the reds and yellows, the shade of each petal. And there's a quiet calm in that: contact with the forms of flowers settles the mind and carries you, for a while, away from the troubles of the day.
I give the lines; you bring the rest. An original pen-and-ink drawing. Signed.
