About This Piece
The title is deliberately provocative. Can a woman be a decorative madame? For centuries, society treated her as exactly that — a living ornament, valued first for how she looked. Magazines, advertisements, and tradition all rehearsed it.
In this collage, Madame stares straight back at the viewer, holding that paradox. She's poised, charming, attractive — an image lifted from mid-century glamour, those vintage ads of women smiling through housework with perfectly manicured hands. She is both a real individual and a symbol of her era.
And her gaze asks the question I can't stop asking: were these women living their own dreams, or performing one someone else had written for them?
Times have shifted, thankfully. So I offer her not as a stereotype but as a muse — her image turned into a statement, the old role reclaimed and turned back on itself.
A mixed-media collage. Signed.
