About This Piece

The first linocut in my Structures from Nature series, cut and printed in my graphic studio in Malexander, with the forest that inspires it just beyond the door.

What drew me here is the trunk — the sturdy backbone of every tree, holding up that vast crown of leaves. We call it the stem, an odd word for something so robust, but it does the same work a stem does for a small plant. And it's covered in thick, rough bark: a protective shield, almost a suit of armour, guarding everything inside.

That bark is where the beauty lives. Its structure is specific to each species, forming intricate, near-perfect patterns that catch the eye. Those are what I carved into the linoleum — translating nature's own design into the language of print.

An original linocut. Signed.

Studio letters

I send occasional letters from the studio — no noise, just the work and what’s behind it.
