About This Piece
We all need a safe haven — somewhere to turn when the storm of life closes in. Not only the storms the news brings us, the wars and conflicts, but the everyday ones too: work, money, illness, the quiet ache of feeling alone and unseen.
In this drawing a woman finds that shelter in another's arms. She nestles in, and their warmth seems to envelop her, letting her leave her troubles at the door and simply be present. It's a place to recharge — and from that stillness she gathers the courage to face what's ahead.
I draw women again and again because their inner lives hold so much. Here the figure isn't a likeness but a feeling: the human need to be held, and the strength that quiet refuge gives back.
