Bathers at Sunset

I have vivid memories of these places from childhood. Every year we escaped to the seaside — soft white sand we moulded into cakes and castles, the adults stretched out on blankets in the sun. Children and grown-ups passing the hours so differently, and yet one thing united us all: the sunset. As the sun began to drop we'd pause our games, join the adults, and count the seconds until the last sliver of light slipped below the horizon.

This oil painting holds that feeling. A woman lies on the sand, the sun veiled behind a haze of rippling heat, evening close. Her relaxed pose is the whole point — a figure wholly at peace, dissolved into the landscape around her.

It's a person inside a landscape, and a landscape inside a person. An original oil on canvas. Signed.
