Lady in Red

We usually picture a "lady" as a mature woman, poised and self-possessed. Mine is a young girl — still at the beginning of her life, with everything ahead of her. That's the unconventional choice at the heart of this painting.

I caught her at a single moment, lying gracefully against a red ground, completely immersed in the colour — at rest, or perhaps surrendering to it. Red is warmth, intense emotion, love, and here it dominates everything. Soft light plays across her skin, the fabric's texture pulls the eye, and the whole scene glows.

I'd like the colour to embrace you too — to carry you out of the grey monotony of ordinary days into something warmer. Let the painting be a companion on that small escape, into a world where feeling runs freely.
