Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow

We hand girls the word "super" from childhood — the best, the strongest, the kindest, always smiling. This work is about the woman that girl becomes, and everything she is asked to face at once.

The figure faces two directions at the same time — work and home, dreams and duties, what she feels and what she shows. I did not paint her divided; I painted her doubled, because that is closer to the truth of how women live. The title looks forward, not back: not the girl we expected her to be, but the woman of tomorrow she is becoming. There is hope in that — and the quiet strength women demonstrate daily without anyone calling it heroic.

Look at the point where the two directions of the figure meet — the split is not in her mind; it is in what the world asks of her.

Built up in monotype and collage — offset ink and acrylic, pressed in layers until it feels alive. My own technique, developed over decades of printmaking; this image exists once.
